River Valley Arts Collective: boiling rain - Programs - Al Held Foundation

We are pleased to announce boiling rain, a newly commissioned performance by choreographer and dance artist devynn emory. An awardee of 2024 River Valley Arts Collective + Al Held Foundation Fellowship at Stoneleaf Retreat, emory is developing the work-in-process with collaborators Martita Abril, Yanira Castro, Maura Nguyen Donohue, sound artist Chloe Alexandra Thompson, and Jeanie the medical mannequin that will premiere at the Al Held Foundation on June 9.

For this second season of staging performances in Al Held’s painting studio, RVAC’s Olga Dekalo invited emory to present part 3 of a trilogy that centers the artist’s care work with medical mannequins. A striking unfinished 15 x 20-foot abstract painting by Al Held provides the visual backdrop for the performance. Although Held passed away in 2005 before he was able to finish it, the unresolved imagery abounds with potential, resonating with the way in which emory's work continues to evolve.

The June 9 performance is now fully booked. Please click here to register for July 21, which also includes tours of On The Grounds 2024 outdoor sculpture and Michelle Segre's fiber installation in the drawing studio.
