On the Grounds 2022 is the second exhibition of newly commissioned outdoor installations that present the work of contemporary artists in response to the scenic natural surrounds of Al Held’s former home and studio in Boiceville, NY. Curated by Alyson Baker, director and founder of River Valley Arts Collective, this iteration includes a pack of playful dogs rendered as richly textured ceramic busts by Irja Bodén, fluorescent hand-knotted nets by Jennifer Zackin located in the site of Al Held's hammock and picnic table, and an arrangement of fallen and uprooted trees painted in iridescent automotive paint by Moko Fukuyama, produced while in residence at nearby Stoneleaf Retreat. All three projects articulate the vitality of Held’s studio as a site of continued making and aesthetic exploration.
This exhibition is on view at the Al Held Foundation in Boiceville, NY. The Foundation is not open to the public, however guided private tours of the exhibition are available by appointment.
